Not Bad - A Little Pricey
This app is a pretty nice app. Like many of the other reviewers, I listen to SoundCloud for hours on end, and the media button integration was my reason for purchasing. It does work, although not via the app. In order to use the buttons, I had to install a seprate script via Termainal. It wasn’t complicated, but it would be nice if the app did it automatically while running. Additionally, I would love a button for favorite-ing a song, because this involves opening the window again, defeating the point of the app.
Secondly, this app does use a disproportinaltey high ammount of power. While streaming music from SoundCloud via Safari, with about ten other windos open, Activity Moniter reports that Safari has a power consumption of ~ 3, while SoundMate averages ~18-20. This is an increase of 600%, and I don’t understand why. A fix, somewhat, is to close the window completley (with the red X at the top left, but the music doesn’t stop) and the power consuption will fall to about 9. This is tolerable.
A final comment is about the app’s movement. If one does not click the red X on the app, then it will move to whatever Desktop you are on. So, if you, like me, have traditionally kept your SoundCloud window on the first Desktop, it will now follow you arround. Even after going to the icon on the dock, right clicking, and assigning it to the first Desktop, it still moved. I would like this to be an option.
Overall, this is a nice app. However, in it’s current state $5 might be slightly high.
